Don WittekindThe UNC School of Journalism and Mass Communication offered its first Multimedia Bootcamp in 2002.  Since then, the program has continued to evolve, offering participants a rare opportunity to work closely with both acclaimed UNC faculty and industry leaders in the field.

This year's program is under the direction of Don Wittekind, assistant professor in the School's visual-communication sequence. Before making the move to teaching, Wittekind spent 10 years as informational-graphics director at the South Florida Sun-Sentinel, where he led the creation of the first newspaper-based multimedia graphics department. Under his direction, the Sun-Sentinel created its first interactive project in December of 1996 and continued as an industry leader throughout his tenure. Wittekind’s work has been honored with top honors by the Newspaper Association of America, Editor & Publisher, the Online News Association and the SND.ies.  He also heads Swarm Interactive, which provides medical animation and web design as well as multimedia production for companies such as the Discovery Channel and National Geographic.
